Ornithogalum khuzestanicum is a plant of the genus milk star ( ornithogalum ).

description

Ornithogalum khuzestanicum is a perennial plant that reaches heights of 60 to 65 centimeters. The onion is egg-shaped, 4.5 × 4.5 centimeters in size and does not form daughter onions. The outer onion skins are brown, the inner ones are whitish and membranous. The shaft is usually upright, 22 to 25, rarely up to 30 centimeters high and hairless. The 4 to 5 leaves are spread out, lanceolate, 27 to 32 centimeters long, 8 to 10 millimeters wide, longer than the shaft, shorter than the inflorescence, flat or slightly runny and tapering towards the tip.

The inflorescence is 40 to 45 × 6 to 7 millimeters in size, 40 to 60 flowered and dense. The flower stalks are 12 to 20 millimeters long during flowering and 25 to 30 millimeters long during fruit ripening. They are longer than the bracts . The bracts are 17 to 37 × 2 to 3 millimeters in size, lanceolate, pointed and shorter than the flower stalks. The bracts are oblong-egg-shaped, 15 to 17 × 3 to 3.5 millimeters in size, milky-white to yellow on the inside and milky-white with narrow dark green, sometimes brownish edges on the outside. The stamens are 8 to 8.5 × 1.8 to 2.2 millimeters in size. The anthers are 3 to 3.5 millimeters long, yellow, linear and flattened. The ovary is 5 × 4 millimeters in size, obovate and longer than the stylus. The stylus are 4 to 4.5 millimeters long. The capsule is elliptically elongated and 7 to 8 × 5 to 6 millimeters in size. There are 6 to 8 seeds per capsule. The seeds are black, blunt at the tip and 1.7 to 3.7 millimeters in diameter.

Occurrence

The species occurs in a valley in the Iranian province of Chuzestan at an altitude of 700 meters.
