Orontes III. (Armenian: Երուանդ, Greek: Ὀρόντης; † after 280 BC) was a satrap and then king of Armenia from the Orontid dynasty .

He was the son of King Orontes II. Orontes III. stood as satrap of Armenia in 317 BC BC initially under a nominal sovereignty of the successors ( diadochs ) of Alexander the great . First under Antigonos Monophthalmos and after his death in the Battle of Ipsos in 301 BC. Under Seleucus . When after his murder in 281 BC BC the rule of the Seleucids in Asia Minor wavered, Orontes III used. the situation to make yourself independent. From this time on, the historian Diodorus called him “King”. Furthermore, he supported the prince of Cappadocia , Ariarathes II. , In his independence efforts by jointly defeating the Seleucid strategist Amyntas there .

His descendant Orontes was around 200 BC. First independent ruler of (Eastern) Armenia.
