Orphir is a parish on the island of Mainland , Orkney .
Orphir, Old Norse : Jorfjara / Orfjara, has been found around 1100. It was one of the main centers of power on Mainland during the Norman rule of the Orkney .
Here was a historic court of the Earls (Earls Bu) with a hall and a click mill ( horizontal water mill ). The foundations of the Bu and the water flow of the mill were discovered in 1859.
In the late 11th or early 12th century, the round church of Orphir , which is now in ruins, was built. A parish church built later is no longer preserved today.
The Orkneyinga saga center is located in Orphir today .
