Orson was an American indie rock band from Hollywood ( California ).

Band history

After their formation in 2000, the band played at several concerts in the USA. Five years passed before she was able to sign a recording contract: In October 2005 she played at the In-The-City Festival in Manchester ( United Kingdom ). So the record label Mercury Records UK became aware of them. She signed her first record deal with him. In December 2005, Orson opened up for eight concerts by Duran Duran . Her success in Europe rose while she was still completely unknown in her home country, the USA. That's why all band members moved to London in 2006 . They then went on tour through the UK. Their first single, No Tomorrow , which was released on February 27, 2006, made it to # 1 in the UK Top 40 . No Tomorrow also became one of the most downloaded tracks of 2006 (4th place on the iTunes annual charts). The debut album Bright Idea , which was released on May 15th, made it to number 1 on the British album charts in its first week. Orson was next to Basement Jaxx one of the two opening acts of the Close Encounters Tour 2006 by Robbie Williams . In 2007 the band received a Brit Award for "Best International Newcomer". In October 2007 followed the release of the second album Culture Vultures as well as the album's first single , Ain't No Party .

In an interview, lead singer Jason Pebworth said that the band was musically influenced mainly by Led Zeppelin , Flaming Lips , Beck and Björk . They gave themselves their name in reference to the director Orson Welles .

Shortly after the release of the second album Culture Vultures in 2007, the band announced their breakup
