Oscar Bloch
Oscar Bloch (born May 8, 1877 in Le Thillot , Vosges , † April 15, 1937 in Paris ) was a French Romance scholar and dialectologist.
Life
Bloch completed his habilitation with the works Les Parlers des Vosges méridionales (arrondissement de Remiremont, département des Vosges), étude de dialectologie (Paris 1917, Marseille 1978) and Atlas linguistique des Vosges méridionales (Paris 1914, 1917). He was a teacher at the Lycée Buffon (1917-1937) and from 1926 (as the successor to his teacher Jules Gilliéron ) Directeur d'études for Gallo-Roman dialectology at the École pratique des hautes études (without a successor).
He also had teaching positions at the Sorbonne and at the École Normale Supérieure de Fontenay. Together with Adolphe Terracher (1881–1955) he founded the magazine Revue de linguistique romane in 1925 . Together with his teacher colleague René Georgin , he wrote a much-used mother tongue grammar of French, which appeared from 1936 to 1960. He was the father of the Etruscanologist Raymond Bloch (1914–1997).
