Oscar Philip Repsold (born May 9, 1842 in Hamburg ; † October 22, 1919 there ) was a German engineer and entrepreneur , co-owner of the precision engineering workshop A. Repsold & Sons in Hamburg and a member of the Hamburg parliament .

Life

Repsold was born the son of Adolf Repsold and grandson of Johann Georg Repsold , his brothers were Johann Adolf Repsold and Carl Repsold (1848–1911). He studied at the Swiss Federal Polytechnic in Zurich from 1863 to 1864 and, like his father, became a syringe master in Hamburg in 1866 . Repsold joined the A. Repsold & Sons workshop as a partner in 1867 and worked there together with his brother Johann Adolf Repsold until 1919. The workshop mainly manufactured astronomical and geodetic devices and instruments, for example micrometers , and had a very good reputation.

From 1874 to 1912 he was a member of the Hamburg parliament. From 1872 to 1880 Repsold was a member of the building deputation . From 1897 he was a member of the water art deputation. Repsold was an extraordinary member of the Hamburg Artists' Association from 1832 .

At planquadrat K 4, 11-20 ( Bergstrasse , south of the cemetery museum) in Hamburg's Ohlsdorf cemetery there is a gravestone for the families of Carl and Oscar Repsold with a relief by the painter and sculptor Wilhelm Repsold , Carl Repsold's son.
