Wilhelm Repsold

Wilhelm Repsold (born March 19, 1885 in Hamburg , † December 2, 1969 in Dießen am Ammersee ) was a German sculptor , ceramist , illustrator and silhouette artist .

Life

Wilhelm Repsold was the nephew of the Hamburg optical instrument designer Johann Adolf Repsold , the grandson of the Hamburg syringe master Adolf Repsold and the great-grandson of the chief syringe master of the Hamburg fire brigade Johann Georg Repsold .

Prior to his artistic training Repsold created already silhouette -Illustrations and silhouettes , which he presented exhibition silhouettes of Hohenzollern-art commercial building in 1912 in Berlin in. In 1918 Wilhelm Repsold went to Sweden .

He was later trained at the Dresden School of Applied Arts and at the Académie Julian in Paris . He was a student of the Stuttgart sculptor Ludwig Habich .

From 1929 to 1933 he lived in Berlin-Steglitz at Thorwaldsenstraße 37. "His silhouettes show a delicious sense of humor and accurate observation." ( Biographical notes from Hans-Georg Schmidt, Munich )

Repsold created illustrations for books and artistic designs for book covers, for example for Albert Emil Brachvogel : Friedemann Bach , Berlin 1925. As a sculptor he created small sculptures, portrait busts and tombs made of ceramic and bronze. He developed models for the Königliche Porzellan-Manufaktur Berlin (KPM).

Wilhelm Repsold was a member of the German Association of Artists . His first marriage from 1914 to 1928 was Luise Märten, a Berlin writer, communist and journalist.

For his father and his brother Carl Repsold Oscar Repsold he created in 1911 the grave stone with bronze relief on the family plot grid square K4 ( mountain road , south cemetery museum), Cemetery Ohlsdorf .
