Vulpius wrote about 260 papers, essays, monographs and books. His main work is the orthopedic operation theory that he wrote with his student Adolf Stoffel . It is the first ever surgical guide and was published in three editions. Matthias Jung and Arnim Braun point out that Vulpius' contribution to the development of orthopedics “has so far been of no importance in the literature”. The orthopedic-surgical poli and private clinic in Heidelberg, opened in 1896, is one of the first accident facilities in Germany after the establishment of the statutory accident insurance in 1884. Vulpius recognized the synergy of orthopedics and trauma surgery early on . By founding the Vulpiusklinik as a GmbH in 1912 , with his two clinics in Heidelberg and Bad Rappenau, he was able to provide both acute treatment and rehabilitation in the sense of follow-up treatment .
