Oscar Arnold Wergeland (born October 12, 1844 in Kristiania, now Oslo , † May 20, 1910 ) was a Norwegian painter . One of his best-known works is a painting of the Imperial Assembly of Eidsvoll 1814 from 1885. Two other works by Wergeland are on display in the National Gallery in Oslo .

From 1865 to 1867 he attended the National Academy of Arts and Crafts ( no . Statens håndverks- und kunstindustriskole ) in Kristiana, which later merged into the Oslo School of Art . From 1865 to 1869 he studied at an art school directed by Johan Fredrik Eckersberg and then spent a year in Copenhagen . From 1874 to 1876, he specialized in Munich on history painting and lived there until 1889.
