history

Osem was founded in 1942 by seven pasta manufacturers as a sales company for their products. In 1946 the first production facility for noodles and ptitim went into operation in Bnei Brak . In 1964 there was a snack factory in Cholon , whose main product, a corn snack flavored with peanut butter under the Bamba brand, achieved a market share of 25% in Israel. In 1970 Osem started making baked goods. In 1976, the new main plant started production at the new administrative headquarters in Petach Tikwa, and the production of soup powder, which is now part of the range, was relocated there. In 1995 Nestlé acquired a 10% stake in the company. Osem was granted exclusive rights to distribute Nestlé products in Israel and manufactured some of them under license. In the following years Nestlé gradually increased its stake to 50.1%. In 2002 Osem set up a research and development center in Sderot . After a further increase in stake to almost 60% in 2012, Nestlé announced an agreement to acquire the remaining shares in early 2016. Until then, Osem was listed on the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange, where it was most recently represented in the TA-25 , TA-100 , TA-Maala and TA Composite indices .
