Osgood's horseshoe bat ( Rhinolophus osgoodi ) is a little-researched bat from the horseshoe bat family . The art epithet honors Wilfred Hudson Osgood , who first studied the species in 1932.

features

The head body length is 52 to 54 mm, the tail length 17 to 21 mm, the hind foot length 8 to 9 mm, the ear length 12 to 20 mm, the forearm length 42 to 46 mm and the skull length 15 to 16 mm. The nose is 6.4 mm wide and covers most of the skull. The wide saddle is rounded at the top and the parallel sides. The shape of the nasal process varies from an acute to an obtuse triangle. The tip of the snout is pointed straight ahead. The metacarpal bones are roughly the same size. The fur is light brown on top with a gray base, and lighter gray on the underside. The skull is short but strong.

Distribution and way of life

Osgood's horseshoe bat is found in the Chinese province of Yunnan . Nothing is known about their way of life.

status

Osgood's horseshoe bat is only known from ten specimens collected in 1929 by Herbert Stevens near Nguluko in the Chinese province of Yunnan. Osgood mentioned it in 1932 as an unknown subspecies of Blyth's horseshoe bat ( Rhinolophus lepidus ), the valid first description as an independent species comes from Colin Campbell Sanborn from 1939. A specimen caught in a cave near Dali in 2003 could represent this species. The IUCN lists Osgood's horseshoe bat in the “ data deficient ” category .
