Oskar Mey
Oskar Mey (born March 2, 1867 in Bünauburg ; † January 23, 1942 ) was a German linen manufacturer.
Life
Oskar Mey studied at the University of Munich and the Technical Universities of Munich and Dresden. In 1886 he became a member of the Corps Bavaria Munich . After graduating, he went traveling for a year. In 1892 he joined the linen spinning and weaving mill in Bäumenheim . In 1895 he became the owner of the factory. In the following decades he developed the factory into an important location for the Swabian textile industry.
Mey was a sponsor and financier of archaeological excavations in Asia Minor and himself published on archaeological topics. From 1910 to 1935 he was involved in several group trips to Greece (Hellas trips for teachers and students with up to 375 participants), for which he donated considerable sums from his own fortune. In Baumheim he built a villa characterized by elements of style from the Hellenic culture. He was one of the founders of TSV 1894 Bäumenheim e. V.
