Oskar Nuyken
Oskar Nuyken (born December 17, 1939 in Berlinchen ) is a German chemist ( macromolecular chemistry ) and professor at the Technical University of Munich .
life and work
Nuyken studied engineering economics specializing in chemistry at the TH Dresden and chemistry at the TU Berlin , where he received his doctorate in 1970 ( synthesis and rate of decomposition of some asymmetrical azonitriles and azodinitriles ). In 1974 he became a scientific assistant to Robert Kerber at the Technical University of Munich, where he completed his habilitation in polymer chemistry in 1979 (habilitation thesis: Copolymerization of 4- (1,1-dicyanoethylazo) benzyl methacrylate with styrene, methacrylonitrile and methyl methacrylate with subsequent grafting of the azo copolymers ). In 1980 he was visiting scholar at the University of Akron in Ohio with Joe Kennedy. In 1985 he became a professor at the University of Mainz and in 1986 at the University of Bayreuth . From 1992 until his retirement in 2007 he was Professor of Macromolecular Chemistry at the Technical University of Munich. There he was the successor of Kerber on the chair for macromolecular substances.
Among other things, he researched polymers for the communications industry and medical applications, membrane materials, high-temperature-resistant polymers, amphiphilic block and graft polymers, and cationic polymerization . He also researches metathesis for the preparation of monomers and polymers and the synthesis of polymers through transition-metal-catalyzed CC and CN linkages.
In 2015 he and Michael Maskos (University of Mainz, Fraunhofer Institute for Chemical Technology) and Sebastian Koltzenburg (BASF) received the Literature Prize of the Fonds der Chemischen Industrie for their textbook on polymers.
