Oskar Raif

Oskar Raif (born July 31, 1847 in The Hague , Netherlands , † July 29, 1899 in Berlin ) was a German music teacher and composer .

Raif came to Berlin in 1867 at the age of 20 to become a student of Carl Tausig at his school of higher piano playing . From 1875 Raif himself worked as a piano teacher at the Royal University of Berlin , where he was later appointed professor. Due to his thorough physical and acoustic studies, Raif was considered one of the most excellent piano teachers.

Of his compositions, which are also valued by Johannes Brahms , among others, the piano concerto (op. 1) and a violin sonata are of particular importance.
