Oskar Weski (born August 8, 1879 in Bischofsburg , East Prussia, † November 22, 1952 in Berlin ) was a German doctor and dentist .

Life

From 1906 Weski worked as a dentist and radiologist in Berlin.

In 1921 he coined the terms paradentium and paradentosis . Under paradentium , he summarized the entire tooth-supporting apparatus , i.e. the gums, the alveolar bones, the periodontal membrane with the Sharpey fibers and the root cement . He also introduced the term paradentosis for all diseases of the periodontium.

Note: From the middle of the 20th century, these word creations were replaced by the etymologically correct terms periodontium and parodontosis . In addition, a more strict distinction has been made between inflammatory and non-inflammatory diseases since then .

In 1924 Weski founded, together with Hans Sachs (1881–1974) and Robert Neumann (1882–1958), the Working Group for Paradentosis Research (ARPA), which the ARPA Internationale followed on his initiative. In addition, he successfully advocated the systematic treatment of periodontal diseases within the framework of social insurance .

Note: The ARPA disbanded in 1970. It was followed in 1971 by the German Society for Periodontology .
