The Declaration of Principles on Temporary Self-Government is an Israeli - Palestinian Framework Agreement signed on September 13, 1993 in Washington, DC . The agreement is also under the names Declaration of Principles (abbreviated DOP ) Oslo Agreement or Oslo I known.

One week later, the Knesset ratified the framework agreement with binding effect on international law. A ratification by the PLO that is binding under international law has not yet taken place. Nevertheless, it came into force on October 13, 1993.

The Declaration of Principles was the first agreement under the Oslo Peace Process . The conclusion was preceded by intensive unofficial contacts between Palestinian and Israeli representatives in Oslo.

The framework agreement signed by the PLO and Israel contains general principles for a five-year interim phase of Palestinian self-government. Final status issues have been postponed to pending negotiations.

After the signing of this agreement, follow-up negotiations were held, which led to a more precise definition of the autonomous rights of Palestine in the “Agreement on the Palestinian Partial Autonomy in the Gaza Strip and in the Jericho Area”, or Gaza-Jericho Agreement for short .
