Ossip Kalenter

Ossip Kalenter , also Ozzip (actually Johannes Burckhardt ; born November 15, 1900 in Dresden , † January 14, 1976 in Zurich ) was a German writer .

Life

The writer was born in Dresden as the son of a businessman under the name Johannes Burckhardt. In 1920 he published his first poems and took the stage name Ossip Kalenter, under which he published from that time. Soon afterwards he left his hometown and lived in different places. From 1924 to 1934 he worked as a freelance journalist in Italy, from 1934 to 1939 he was editor of the Prager Tagblatt in Prague . After the occupation of Prague, he fled to Switzerland and lived in Zurich until his death. From 1957 to 1967 he was chairman of the PEN center for German-speaking authors abroad .
