The East Avenue is a road on the eastern outskirts of Trier Old Town between South Avenue and Baldwin Place , close to the main train station . Historically , the Weimarer Allee, named after Trier's twin city, Weimar , also belongs to Ostallee . The full length of the street is a one-way street . In the south the already mentioned Weimarer Allee runs parallel, followed by the street “An der Schellenmauer”, to which the Balduinstraße finally connects in the north . The parallel streets are also one-way streets.

The name of the street is derived from its location in the city, as it is on the eastern edge of the medieval old town of Trier. It was therefore part of the Trier city wall until the 19th century. To this day, the longest part of the Trier city wall runs parallel to the street for a long stretch, as the name "An der Schellenmauer" indicates. Immediately on the street is the striking and well-known eastern front of the Kaiserthermen , which was used as part of the city wall in the Middle Ages.

There are two other cultural monuments in the street . These are two historicist villas. The building at Ostallee 3 is the former Laeis foundry and machine factory, one of the oldest industrial plants in Trier.

Across from Ostallee 31 is the historic cathedral cellar, which was built around 1900 as a wine cellar. Today the basement is largely built over with the cathedral joiner's buildings. Another wine cellar, which was built around the same time, lies at right angles to the cathedral cellar. The two cellars were not connected to one another until 1959. The complex is characterized by its rare spatial shape of an elongated, long barrel vaulted main room with side chambers laid out to the west and separated from one another by wall tongues, the transverse barrels of which cut into the longitudinal barrel with lance caps. The wine cellar also has a small iron crane, which is located in the green belt between Ostallee and An der Schellenmauer.

The main entrance of the Trier State Museum , the longest preserved piece of the old city wall, the Trier public utilities , the eastern front of the Trier multi-generation house in the former building of the Reichsbahndirektion Trier , the shopping center Alleencenter in a former locomotive shed, the citizens' office of the Trier community are also located on Ostallee. Land , as well as the local radio station of the Rhineland-Palatinate state surveillance. There are also various shops, practices and other service facilities in the street.

In the course of the Ostallee there is also an air surveillance station for Rhineland-Palatinate.

A location in the green belt between the lanes and in Trier Blue Lagoon called Aral gas station was the reason of the first conducted in Trier citizens' decision . After the city council had rejected an extension of the lease agreement with a large majority of 41 votes, 73% of the voters voted in favor of leaving the gas station in the first referendum held in Trier on December 10, 2017. The quorum that 15% of all eligible voters support the application was also reached. The long opening times of the small gas station supermarket played an important role in the discussion.
