The Osterlandgymnasium Gera ( colloquial : Osterland; short: OLGY ) is a general educational high school specializing in natural sciences .

The name of the high school refers to the historical landscape of Osterland . The high school is located in Gera , but belongs to the district of Greiz . It mainly teaches students from the Geras area, but also from the city. As of September 2018, 459 students are attending the Osterlandgymnasium, and 42 teachers are employed at the school.

history

The Osterlandgymnasium emerged in 1994 from a school abandoned by the Soviet armed forces when they withdrew and was therefore colloquially referred to as the "Russian School". After lengthy discussions, the Ministry of Culture in Erfurt approved the acquisition of the building for DM 5.5 million on September 7, 1993  . The building was gutted and extensively renovated. Teaching began on August 29, 1994. In the spring of 1996 the gymnasium and sports facilities were handed over for teaching, the construction costs for this amounted to 2 million DM. On August 31, 2005, the school auditorium was inaugurated as an extension. Anton Daburger was the director until summer 2006. Beate Barth has held this position since the 2006/07 school year. Olaf Küchler has been heading the Osterlandgymnasium since 2015/2016. The teachers at the school came from the secondary school in Ronneburg or were assigned to the new teaching facility from the schools in the district.
