Location of Ostervesede in Lower Saxony |
Ostervesede ( Low German Oostervees ) is a district of the municipality of Scheeßel and is located in the eastern part of the Rotenburg (Wümme) district in Lower Saxony . The place has 817 inhabitants (as of 11/2009).
history
The history of the village goes back much further than can be proven in writing. There is evidence that people lived in this area as early as the Mesolithic period (around 9500 to 4000 BC).
The people in Ostervesede first settled down in the Neolithic Age (around 4000 to around 1700 BC). Through their permanent presence they left numerous traces, including a very well-preserved hatchet made of cut flint , which was found in the district. About 25 burial mounds are known there. Many of them were destroyed over time.
Many other finds, such as a sickle , prove that Ostervesede is older than mentioned in a document.
On March 1, 1974, Ostervesede was incorporated into the community of Scheeßel.
