The Ostmann Tower in Bielefeld

The quarter is enclosed by Herford Street in the west and north, Walther-Rathenau-Strasse in the east and Friedrich-Ebert-Strasse and Werner-Bock-Strasse in the south. The August-Bebel-Street is the main thoroughfare in the district and one of the major roads in Bielefeld. The pedestrian zone in the city center can be reached on foot in five minutes, and Bielefeld main station can be reached in two minutes. A total of almost 10,000 people live in this quarter. The quarter takes its name from the Ostmann Tower , a student dormitory that was acquired by the Bielefelder Freemaurer eV social welfare organization at the start of the 1980s. The tower belongs to the former factory building of the Ostmann Gewürz company , is located at 7 Hanns-Bisegger-Straße and is a listed building. It is the only remaining evidence of the previously dense commercial development in the district.

The term Ostmannturmviertel is used increasingly in connection with the structural change in the area, which was and is supported by social management in the 2010s.
