The Oswald-von-Nell-Breuning-Schule (short: Nell-Breuning-Schule or OvNBS ) is an integrated comprehensive school and European school with upper secondary school in Rödermark . It is named after the Catholic social philosopher Oswald von Nell-Breuning .

General

The school was founded in 1970 initially as a pure middle school (grades 5–10). Since 1994 it has also had an upper school level.

The school building was built between 1969 and 1975, the gymnasium was built in 1969. The school grounds are 40,710 m². Due to increased PCB levels, the school was extensively renovated between 1996 and 2000. Further renovation work was carried out in the years up to 2005. From May 2010 an extension for all-day offers was built, which was inaugurated on December 13, 2011.

The Nell-Breuning-Schule is the only secondary school in Rödermark. As an offer school, it is also available to students from other places of residence.

With around 1700 students (as of the 2009/2010 school year), around 300 of them in grades 11–13, and 130 teachers, it is one of the largest schools in the area. As a European school, it is a role model for comprehensive schools in Hesse and throughout Germany.

When it was founded, the school was named Rodgau School , named after the historic Rodgau , part of the medieval Maingau. Due to the risk of confusion with the neighboring town of Rodgau , the name was changed.

Profiles

In contrast to many grammar schools, the Oswald von Nell Breuning School has so-called profiles from the 12th grade onwards. Here are not only two advanced courses (SC) is selected, but a profile with two "non-LK" -Fächern is interdisciplinary in conjunction. For example, in the profile natural philosophy, physics is selected as LK1. This includes English and religion or ethics . These three subjects are mutually reinforcing, as a lot of physical English is taught in English and the consequences of physical research are shown in religion and ethics.

It is similar with the Europe profile, which is mainly taught in English. There are also other profiles.

The LK2 can be freely selected for each profile. For those who are scientifically and physically oriented, for example, mathematics , biology or chemistry would be suitable.

Working with profiles makes it easier for high school graduates to work. In addition, people work more in class than in normal high schools. Feedback from the students is positive.

Oswald von Nell Breuning Symposium

Together with the city of Rödermark, the school organizes the Oswald-von-Nell-Breuning Symposium , a two-day event with scientific lectures on a socio-political focus. The symposium aims to bring high school students, teachers and scientists into contact with one another. At the same time, current scientific findings should reach a broad public.
