Oswald Gartenmaier

Oswald "Ossi" Gartenmaier (* February 12, 1948 in Vienna ; † February 28, 2010 there ) was an Austrian professional golfer and founder of the PGA of Austria .

Career

His father was a jockey at the Freudenau horse racing track in Vienna, on whose grounds the GC Wien golf course is also located. Here Gartenmaier matured into one of the best golfers in Austria. At the age of 14 he was already playing as a professional and achieved notable national and international success. He won four Austrian championships and represented his country 21 times in the World Cup . Gartenmaier played on the PGA European Tour and achieved 8th place at the German Open in 1973 . After reaching the age limit of 50, he also played on the European Seniors Tour .

In 1980 Gartenmaier founded the Professional Golfers' Association of Austria and was its first president.

In his career as a golf instructor he worked at the golf clubs Semmering, Murhof, Vienna and finally for more than 20 years - until his death - as a head pro at the Schloss Schönborn golf club .

Gartenmaier was buried at the Asperner Friedhof in Vienna.
