Oswald Hall

Oswald Hall , also Auchincruive House , is a manor house near the Scottish town of Auchincruive in the Council Area South Ayrshire . In 1971 the structure was included in the Scottish monument lists in the highest monument category A. In addition, Oswald Hall, together with some outbuildings, including Oswald's Temple , form a category A monument ensemble.

history

In 1374, the Clan Wallace owned the Auchincruive estate of the Cathcarts. A tower house of unknown year of construction was first mentioned at this location in 1532. James Murray , who had acquired Auchincruive in 1758, sold the property to the merchant Richard Oswald . This commissioned Robert Adam with the planning of the manor house, which was probably built on the site of the Tower House. It was completed in 1767. During the late 18th and early 19th centuries, Oswald Hall was redesigned and expanded. The West of Scotland Agricultural College has owned the property since 1927.

description

This is designed with glass elements and is flanked by eight simple window elements. It closes with an ornamented, semicircular fighter window . The facade is designed with a simple cornice . On the east side, there is a later extension, which is stylistically adapted to the original building. In addition, two single-story extensions, each two axes wide, continue the series. At the rear of the main building, two single-storey lofts flank a larger loft with triplet windows that extends over both floors . The building closes with slate-covered platform roofs .
