Oswald Riedel

AE Oswald Riedel (born May 24, 1887 in Herzberg am Harz , † 1969 ) was a German journalist and politician ( DDP , DStP).

Life

The son of the sculptor Oswald Riedel and Lina Probst attended the citizen school in Herzberg from 1893 to 1900, the secondary school in Lauterberg from 1900 to 1903 and the secondary school in Göttingen from 1903 to 1906 . Following his school career, he completed a degree at the universities in Göttingen and Giessen . As a representative of the National Liberal Party , he turned to journalism and, as an editor, wrote numerous articles in daily newspapers and weeklies. He was appointed to the syndic of the General Union of Railway Workers in Berlin-Charlottenburg and was later its general secretary. He interrupted his activity there to participate in the First World War . Furthermore, he was a member of the Reich Railway Council and the State Railway Council in Berlin and a member of the board of the union ring of German workers ', salaried employees and civil servants' associations.

After the end of the war, Riedel joined the newly founded German Democratic Party (DDP) and was a member of the DDP party committee from 1919 to 1922 and again from 1925 to 1930. In 1930 the DDP was renamed the German State Party (DStP).

From 1919 to 1921 Riedel was a member of the Prussian State Constitutional Assembly . In February 1921 he was elected as a member of the Prussian state parliament, to which he belonged without interruption until the end of the third legislative period in 1932. He represented constituency 5 (Frankfurt a. O.) in parliament. From January 1925 to 1932 he was managing director of the DDP and DStP faction. His parliamentary work focused on economic and social policy.

Oswald Riedel had been married to Luise Tonndorf since 1910 and had four children.
