Otanmäki

Otanmäki is a village about 30 km southwest of Kajaani , Finland . Otanmäki is located in the former municipality of Vuolijoki , which has been part of the urban area of Kajaani since 2007. The place has about 1000 inhabitants.
The place was established to supply an iron ore mine in the 1950s. The mine was operated by Rautaruukki Oy from 1953 to 1985 and produced iron ore . After the mine was closed, the place remained a center of the metalworking industry. The main employer is the manufacturer of rail vehicles Transtech Oy , which produces , among other things, for the Finnish State Railways (VR) .
The village has the necessary basic services, such as trade, pharmacy, post office, library, dental clinic, outdoor swimming pool, bar and gas station. There are elementary and secondary schools in the village, and there was a high school until 2008.
