Othmar Jäggi

Othmar Jäggi (born February 21, 1967 in Basel ) is a Swiss classical archaeologist .

In 1986, Othmar Jäggi passed the Matura examination in Basel and began studying Classical Archeology, Ancient History and Modern German Literature at the University of Basel . In 1992 he spent one semester at the University of Madrid and in the same year obtained his licentiate in Basel with the work Four Iberian Bronzes by Máquiz, Mengíbar, Prov. Jaén . With a grant from several foundations, Jäggi stayed in Madrid from 1994 to 1997 to work on his dissertation. He received his doctorate in 1997 with a thesis on the subject of Hellenism on the Iberian Peninsula. Studies in Iberian art and culture. The example of a reception process in Basel. In 1998 Jäggi became a lecturer at the University of Basel, and in 1999 he was a research assistant at the Basel editorial team of the Lexicon Iconographicum Mythologiae Classicae (LIMC), where he was involved in setting up the database. Jäggi's main research areas are ancient sculpture, late classical vase painting , especially Kerch vases , and visual science. He also deals with methodological discussions and humanities computing . In the latter, among other things, he is busy building an independent photo archive for research and teaching. He is also involved in the publication of the ancient sculptures of the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes in Havana .
