Otokar Otomotiv ve Savunma Sanayi A.Ş formerly Otokar Otobüs Karoseri Sanayi A.Ş. , abbreviated to Otokar , is a Turkish manufacturer of buses and military vehicles . Otokar is part of Koç Holding .

In 1963 the first bus was manufactured at Otokar. It was a license production from Magirus-Deutz . In the 1970s, minibuses were added to the program and in the 1980s, city bus production also began. In the 1980s, the production of military vehicles was also started. From 1987 the Land Rover Defender is built under license. In 1992, Otokar acquired Istanbul Fruehauf AS, thereby adding trailer manufacture to its product portfolio.
Otokar also manufactures armored vehicles such as the Otokar Cobra or the Akrep. In April 2007 Otokar received an order to manufacture a Turkish battle tank . The project is called Altay MBT .
