Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery , abbreviated Otolaryngol Head Neck Surg. , is a scientific journal published by SAGE Publishing on behalf of the American Academy of Otolaryngology . The journal was founded in 1896 under the name Transactions of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology - Oto-laryngologic Section , which was shortened to Transactions of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology in 1906 . In 1978 the name Otolaryngology was briefly usedand since 1979 the magazine has been published under its current name. It appears six issues a year. Papers are published that deal with the application of surgical methods in the head, neck and ear.
