Ottilia Schenk from Siemau
Ottilia Schenk von Siemau († July 10, 1529 ) was abbess of the Himmelkron Monastery from 1522 to 1529.
Ottilia came from the family of the Schenk von Siemau . During her time as abbess, the peasants' war raged in the Franconian region . The so-called Oberland was less affected. In Bayreuth rallied apparently some rebels who handed damage of the monastery, such as the theft of a silver cross, but remained manageable and people took no harm.
Its heavily worn epitaph is behind the altar . At first it was in the choir room at the point where a door was later added. Tradition established that her stone and that of another abbess were the children's tombstones in connection with the legend of the White Woman . As early as 1701 this prompted Margrave Christian Ernst to investigate. The opening of the tomb revealed that women's clothing and a jawbone were evidence of the burial of an adult woman. The last certainty was a decipherment of the fragments of the inscription in the 19th century.
