Sophie Ottilie von Faber-Castell (born September 6, 1877 in Stein near Nuremberg as Sophie Ottilie von Faber , † September 28, 1944 in Nuremberg) was a German entrepreneur and owner of Faber-Castell .

origin

Her parents were Wilhelm Freiherr von Faber (1851-1893) and his wife, Bertha Faber (* 1856), born in New York. She still had two sisters: Sophie (* 1878) was married to the Bavarian Lieutenant General Karl von Hirschberg and Hedwig (1882–1937) to the Prussian major Wolfgang Fürst zu Castell-Rüdenhausen (1875–1930).

Life

As the granddaughter of Lothar von Faber , Ottilie inherited extensive property from the family foundation in 1896 after the early death of her father Wilhelm. The AW Faber company was initially transferred to Lothar's widow Ottilie senior. In 1898 Ottilie married Count Alexander zu Castell-Rüdenhausen , whom her grandmother Ottilie senior made managing director and partner in 1900. This gave the company the name Faber-Castell . With the death of Ottilie senior, the company passed into the hands of granddaughter Ottilie; Her husband remained the manager. Ottilie divorced Alexander in 1917, making him the owner of the company. In 1918 she married Philipp von Brand zu Neidstein. She had five children with Alexander. Their youngest child and second son, Roland Graf von Faber-Castell (1905–1978), was the last sole owner of the Faber-Castell company .

The Chinese honorary citizen Hubertus Graf von Faber-Castell comes from her son's first marriage to Alix-May von Frankenberg and Ludwigsdorf , from the owner family of the Oppenheim banking dynasty .
