Otto Arndt Liebisch (born January 22, 1935 in Leipzig ; † April 29, 2009 in Burgwedel ) was a German parasitologist and veterinarian . Liebisch was director of the Institute for Parasitology at the University of Veterinary Medicine in Hanover from 1995 to 2000 .

Life

Liebisch studied veterinary medicine at the University of Leipzig from 1952 to 1957 , where he did his doctorate at the age of 23. In the 1970s, he and his family fled the GDR via Syria and Lebanon and came to West Germany. In 1975, after completing his habilitation, Liebisch got a position as a lecturer at the Institute for Parasitology at the University of Veterinary Medicine, Hanover . In 1980 he was appointed professor and head of the Department of Veterinary Entomology. In 1995 Liebisch became director of the Institute for Parasitology. He retired in 2000. Arndt Liebisch died on April 29, 2009 at the age of 74 in Burgwedel near Hanover.

Services

One of the most important achievements of Liebisch was the collaboration with Willy Burgdorfer in Hamilton, Montana, 1982 in the detection of the causative agent of borreliosis in ticks . Liebisch was the first in Germany to introduce the systematic testing of ticks for the borreliosis pathogen.

He is also the author of around 500 scientific publications.
