Otto Franz Gensichen

Otto Franz Gensichen (born February 4, 1847 in Driesen ; † August 24, 1933 ) was a German writer, playwright and publicist. He used the pseudonym Otto Franz.

Life

Otto Franz Gensichen was born on February 4, 1847 in Driesen in der Neumark as the fifth and last child of the pastor Hermann Gensichen and his wife Minna, née Steinke. Up to 1490 the family can be proven completely in the Mark Brandenburg. The city of Müncheberg in the district of Lebus is the home of the family whose first certified progenitor Andreas Gensichen was born that year in Müncheberg and married Anna Möller there.

He was the son of a Protestant pastor and, after taking private lessons from his father, attended the grammar school in Landsberg an der Warthe from 1859 and the Friedrich Wilhelms grammar school in Berlin from 1864 . From 1865 he studied in Berlin, first mathematics, then philosophy and classical philology and in 1869 with the work compositione De Niobidarum Dr. phil. PhD. He worked as a critic, columnist and political writer for various newspapers.

In 1874 he became artistic director and dramaturge at the Wallner Theater in Berlin . He gave up this position in 1878 and from then on lived as a freelance writer in Berlin. As editor, he oversaw the collected works of Nikolaus Lenau and Theodor Körner .

Otto Franz Gensichen died in 1933 at the age of 86 and was buried in the Dahlem Forest Cemetery in Berlin. The grave has not been preserved.
