Otto Freise

Otto Freise (born June 16, 1872 in Seesen , † December 18, 1952 in Bremen ) was a Bremen businessman and factory director.

biography

Karl August Otto Freise, born in Seesen, completed a commercial apprenticeship at a wholesaler for glass, porcelain and earthenware in Verden . From 1895 he was a commercial clerk at Norddeutsche Steingutfabrik AG in Bremen- Grohn . As early as 1899, at the age of 27, he received power of attorney from the company and in 1900 he was appointed to the company's board of directors. As the driving force behind the factory, he took over management of the company in 1903 as the sole director. The Norddeutsche Steingutfabrik also became internationally known for being awarded a gold medal at the Louisiana Purchase Exposition , the 1904 world exhibition in St. Louis . The company kept expanding. In 1912 he founded a subsidiary in Bremen- Aumund . The company took over other ceramic factories after the First World War . He expanded the international business considerably, which accounted for up to 65 percent of sales.

Freise was a member of the Wesermünde Chamber of Commerce and was represented on various supervisory boards. He was also committed to social issues in Vegesack . In 1950 he left the company.

He was buried in the Grohn cemetery in Bremen-Vegesack , Grohn district, in a small brick mausoleum . It is not only the only mausoleum in the Grohn cemetery, but in all of Bremen-Nord. Other mausoleums can only be found in the Bremen cemeteries in Walle and Riensberg.

In Bremen-Grohn, Otto-Freise-Strasse was named after him.
