Otto Gülstorff (born February 5, 1878 in Tilsit , East Prussia , † July 3, 1959 in Berlin ) was a German film architect.

Life

The son of an East Prussian furniture manufacturer attended the Tilsiter secondary school and trained as an architect after graduating from school. He also initially worked in this profession. In 1923 Gülstorff came to film, three years later he was allowed to work as a chief scene designer for the first time. During the silent film, he mainly designed the sets for the productions of Bruno Rahn , Martin Bergers and Wilhelm Dieterle .

Gülstorff did not work regularly with the sound film until 1932. For a number of years he mainly designed the buildings for Robert Neppach's productions . Until the end of the 1930s Gülstorff had to be content with making secondary films, after which he hardly worked for the industry. He realized his most interesting decorations in 1942 as Emil Hasler's partner for the UFA anniversary film Münchhausen , where he was involved in the magnificent design of the oriental, Venetian and lunar worlds.

After working occasionally for DEFA , his only post-war film, Gülstorff retired into private life in 1948 at the age of 70.
