from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Otto Höpfner (born November 6, 1924 in Mainz , † January 31, 2005 in Paris ) was a German radio and television presenter .

After his apprenticeship as a butcher and a short job in his parents' company, Otto Höpfner switched to the entertainment industry. He took singing and piano lessons, performed at the Mainz Carnival and in 1952 won an announcement competition of the Hessischer Rundfunk (HR) . From 1952 he presented the " Frankfurter Wecker " on the radio , with which he achieved great popularity. So in 1957 he became the presenter of the popular TV show " Zum Blauen Bock ", a virtual dining room, into which he invited small talk guests. At the end of the 1950s he was the first host of this program to be one of the most famous TV stars in Germany. Because of a fee dispute with the HR he gave the show in 1966 at Heinz Schenk from what he later called a big mistake. After a short interlude at WDR , he took on a program similar to the Blauer Bock called “ Stelldichein beim Wein ” at ZDF . His new broadcast was unsuccessful and was then canceled after thirteen broadcasts. Höpfner was fired so that he had to end his television career in 1969.

He then worked as a conférencier at fashion shows, performed at public festivals, coffee trips and company parties, did cabaret and acted in theater .

In 1972 he briefly returned to television: he headed the Mainz television carnival session Mainz as it sings and laughs ; this attempt to introduce elements of contemporary entertainment culture into the television carnival, however, met with rejection from critics and the public.

Höpfner spent his twilight years in the community of Wilhelmsfeld in Baden-Württemberg. He was also buried there.

Höpfner was a passionate wine drinker; He didn't like the Frankfurt Äppelwoi , always praised in the Blauer Bock .
