Count Otto I von Rietberg († December 31, 1347 ) was Count von Rietberg from 1313 to 1347 .

Otto I was born the son of Konrad II and his wife Mechthild. After the death of his father in 1313, Otto I took over the government of the county. Otto I died on December 31, 1347. Like his wife Adelheidis, he was buried in the Marienfeld monastery.

On his tombstone it said:

Anna Dni. MCCCXLVII pridie idus Januarii
Obiit Otto comes from Retberge.
Hic jacet * * poenis miserorum Spiritus obtineat coelum,
Caro pace quiescat.

In German translation:

In the year of the Lord 1347, December 31st
Otto Graf von Rietberg died.
Here lies ... by the punishments of the poor; may his spirit win the sky,
rest his flesh in peace.

His wife's tombstone read:

Anna Dni MCCCXLII septimo Kal.Mai migravit
Dna Alheidis Comitissa de Retbergh.
Anima eius requiescat in pace. Amen

In German translation:

In the year of the Lord 1342, on April 25th,
Mrs. Adelheid, Countess von Rietberg, left this world.
Rest your soul in peace. Amen.

Marriage and offspring

Otto I married Adelheidis von Hallermund before 1326 († April 25, 1342). This marriage resulted in five children, only three of whom grew up.
