Otto Kähler (set designer)
Otto Kähler (born November 11, 1910 in Lübeck , † May 18, 1991 in Berlin ) was a German set designer and director .
Life
Kähler completed an apprenticeship as a theater carpenter at the theater in Breslau from 1936-38 and then became a set designer at the Schlesische Landesbühne Brieg and the Stadttheater in Güstrow . In 1945 he became director there, then in 1948 general director of the Mecklenburg State Theater in Schwerin . He was then a district councilor for popular education in Berlin-Weißensee from 1950–53 , before he worked as head of equipment at the Hans-Otto-Theater in Potsdam from 1953–59 , and at the Theater der Freunde in Berlin from 1959–77 .
Kähler was a member of the Organization Internationale des Scénographes Techniciens et Architectes de Théâtre (IOSTAT) and from 1975 president of its GDR section.
