Otto Kleifeld

Otto Kleifeld (born August 31, 1920 in Mühlenbruch , Kolberg-Körlin district ; † January 12, 2004 in Rommersheim ) was a German ophthalmologist.

Life

After Otto Kleifeld had graduated from high school Adolfinum Moers in 1938 , he studied medicine at the universities of Bonn and Munich, interrupted by military missions as a junior doctor. In 1942 he became a member of the Corps Rhenania Bonn, which was officially dissolved at the time and only survived in secret . In 1945 he passed the state examination. From 1946 to 1948 he worked as a doctor in hospitals in Moers and Homberg . In 1947 he was at the Medical Academy Dusseldorf to Dr. med. PhD. At the beginning of 1949 he moved to the University Neurological Clinic and in April of the same year to the University Eye Clinic Bonn. In 1953 and 1954 he stayed for study visits to Detroit and New York City . In 1955 he completed his habilitation in ophthalmology at the University of Bonn. In 1956 he went to Strasbourg for another study visit . In 1961 he was appointed professor.

Since 1961 he had his own practice in Trier as a specialist in eye diseases and was chief physician of the eye department of the Evangelical Elisabeth Hospital in Trier. His scientific work focused in particular on the study of the metabolism of the lens of the eye. Here he worked closely with the biochemist Otto Hockwin .
