Otto Kuphal

Otto Kuphal (born December 16, 1890 in Greifenberg in Pomerania , † January 20, 1946 in Rostock ) was a German politician ( SPD ). In 1945/1946 he was Lord Mayor of Rostock.

Otto Kuphal completed an apprenticeship as a legal assistant and then worked as an assistant in a Rostock law firm, since 1911 as an office manager. In 1926 he joined the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD). As an anti-fascist he was arrested for some time in 1933.

After the Second World War , he was appointed mayor of Rostock by SMAD on July 11, 1945 . In November 1945 he succeeded Christoph Seitz as Lord Mayor of Rostock. He held this office until his death in January 1946. Kuphal died of a heart attack at the age of 55.
