Otto Rantzau (Provost)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Otto Rantzau (* around 1500; † after 1580) was provost of the monastery of Uetersen .

Life

Otto Rantzau was the youngest of the seven sons of Hans Rantzau (1452–1522), lord of Rantzau , Gut Neuhaus , Schmoel and Schönweide , and brother of Balthasar and Melchior Rantzau . He was on the recommendation of King Christian III. elected provost of the Uetersen monastery . In a notarial instrument from 1580, he stated that he had been provost of the monastery for almost 39 years, actually only about 36 years. This incorrect date was also mistakenly taken over from the state register and has not been corrected to this day. He held the office of provost until 1580, and was succeeded by Tylen Kulen for a short time.
