Giekau is a municipality in the Plön district in Schleswig-Holstein . The community includes the villages of Dransau, Engelau, Fresendorf, Gottesgabe, Neuhaus, Ölböhm, Seekrug, Vörstenmoor and Warderhof.
A field stone hall church from the 13th century with an attached classical west tower forms the center of the community. A late Gothic three-winged shrine rich in figures is remarkable.
Geography and traffic
Giekau is about 6 km northwest of Lütjenburg . Part of the Selenter See belongs to Giekau . The federal highway 202 runs through the area of the municipality. From 1910 to 1938 Neuhaus was the station of the Kleinbahn Kirchbarkau – Preetz – Lütjenburg .
history
The community of Giekau belonged to Gut Neuhaus , which was one of the largest Holstein estates before the First World War . The predecessor of today's manor was allegedly laid out by Hans Rantzau after 1499 and remained in the possession of the Rantzau family until 1715 . The mansion has three wings and was built around 1737 using parts of an old house from 1500. One of the later landlords was Friedrich II. Count von Hahn (1742-1805), who gave the main building its current appearance. The facility is still owned by Count Hahn today.

- Gut Neuhaus : Originally owned by the Knights of Giekau (Ghikow), Gut Neuhaus was rebuilt in 1484 by Hans Rantzau, bailiff of Schwabstedt. It remained in the possession of the von Rantzau family until 1734 through Dorothea, married von Brockdorff , to her daughter Christine Magdalena, married to Friedrich von Hahn. Since then it has belonged to Count Hahn to this day .
- St. Johannes Church : The mighty St. Johannes Church with the listed rectory and the adjoining churchyard is characteristic of the site . The history of the tombs behind the cenotaph, inaugurated in 1933, goes back to 1870. At the New Cemetery with the tree burial site closes on the opposite side of the street old cemetery with the mausoleum of the family of Hahn and other interesting grave stones at.
