history

The community was named after Gut Wahlstorf , which was first mentioned in a document in 1224. The mansion was designed by Detlev von Thienen built, it served the uradeligen sex Thienens for over 300 years as the headquarters until they emigrated to Austria, where they live to this day.

politics

coat of arms

Blazon : "In silver, a slanting red battlement wall covered with three golden ears of grain in diagonal bars, above six blue wavy threads."

economy

The community is predominantly agricultural. Tourism also plays a role, e.g. B. campsite, boat rental, riding stables.

traffic

The federal highway 76 runs along the eastern border of the municipality and leads from Kiel via Preetz to Plön . The western border of the municipality is on the district road  19 from Preetz to Ascheberg , with a connection to the federal highway 404 and federal highway 430 .

In 1866, the Kiel – Ascheberg – Eutin – Neustadt railway was opened and runs right through the town. But it wasn't until August 1, 1907 that the Wahlstorf station was opened (passenger and freight traffic). In 1958, the freight service was stopped again, the station building and the freight loading platform demolished. A small waiting hall and the platform remained, however, because passenger trains continued to stop. However, on May 30, 1981, these few stops were given up.

Culture and sights

In the center of the community is the listed manor with the manor house built in the 15th century and the historic barns that were restored from 1982 to 1984.
