Ascheberg (Holstein) is a municipality in the Plön district in Schleswig-Holstein . Mühlenkoppel, Trentrade and Glasholz are in the municipality.

Ascheberg is located on the northwestern shore of the Great Plön Lake in the Holstein Switzerland Nature Park . This area with its numerous lakes belongs to the natural area of ​​the East Holstein hill country and was created during the last ice age.

history

The noble estate of Ascheberg

The lakeshore of the Großer Plöner See was used by hunters, gatherers and fishermen in the Middle Stone Age (approx. 10,000–4300 BC).

From the younger Stone Age (approx. 4300–2300 BC) through the Bronze Age (approx. 2300–550 BC) to the Iron Age (approx. 550 BC – 400 AD), more lived or less continuously farmers in today's municipal area.

The area around Lake Plön was a Slavic settlement area from the 8th to the 12th century AD .

Ascheberg was first mentioned in 1190 as Askeberghe (Eschenberg). The name initially only referred to the manor district and was then transferred to the place over time.

A knight's seat has existed here since the 13th century and was acquired by the Rantzau family in the middle of the 15th century. In 1739, Count Hans zu Rantzau , who lived at Ascheberg Castle , was the first landlord in Holstein to lift the bondage of his peasants. The count divided up the fields of the property, left the land to the peasants and collected interest from them. At that time, a major renovation of the complex in the baroque style was planned, but the plans were not implemented. In the 19th century the castle came to the family of Count Brockdorff-Ahlefeld. Today's Ascheberg Castle, a simple classical building from the 19th century, is used as a Christian youth leisure and recreation center.

The permit for the construction of the Ascheberg train station was granted in 1846. At the beginning of 1989 the station building was sold in private hands.

In 1928 the community of Ascheberg was formed from the main part of the dissolved manor district of Ascheberg and the community of Langenrade. In 1930 part of the municipality of Kalübbe is incorporated.

In 1954, the Michaelis Church was built according to a design by the Kiel architect Schnittger.

On January 1, 2014, Ascheberg resigned from the office of Großer Plöner See and has been administered by the city of Plön ever since .
