Stakendorf lives mainly from agriculture and tourism. There are also several, mostly small companies, such as a metal worker, house and garden service, carpenters and bakers. The next regular train station is Raisdorf on the Kiel – Lübeck railway line , around 20 kilometers southwest of Stakendorf. In the summer months, Stakendorf is approached on weekends by the Schönberger Strand museum railway at the Kiel-Schönberger railway stop of the same name .
