history

As early as 1226, the name Probstei was used for the area of the free farming villages between Hagener Au and Mühlenau . Until 1542 it was under the jurisdiction of the provost of the Preetz monastery . Provost Friedrich (1246 to 1250) made a particular contribution to the cultivation and construction of new villages . Today's Probsteier owe their fertile inheritance, their privileges and their prosperity to him.

As part of the administrative structural reform of the state of Schleswig-Holstein, the previously free municipalities of Laboe and Schönberg (Holstein) and the municipality of Stoltenberg, which previously belonged to the Selent / Schlesen office, joined the office with effect from January 1, 2008.

coat of arms

Blazon : “Divided by silver and blue lowered. Above a red rehearsal animal in the main building, below a broken golden crook with 20 knobs filled with red. "

In its original version from 2002, the coat of arms showed only 17 knobs for the 17 municipalities that were then part of the office. After the inclusion of Laboe, Schönberg and Stoltenberg, three knobs were added.

Probsteier grain days

The Probstei is traditionally known for its grain production, some of which was shipped to Scandinavia. The Probsteier Grain Days, which take place in August, are intended to remind of this time. At this event, a grain queen is elected and large straw figures are set up in the villages of the provost, which are also awarded prizes.

museum
