Founding history

Since there is no founding document for the village of Probsteierhagen, the history of the community is traced in the following by means of written mentions in documents and documents. The German Christian settlement of Ostholstein began around 1138/1139 under the Counts of Schauenburg . In addition to the nobility, the clergy took on the role of settlement carriers. Therefore, the first written records of today's Probsteierhagen community can be found in the foundation deeds and church registers of the Diocese of Lübeck and the Preetz Monastery .

In 1216 the Hagener Au was mentioned in writing for the first time under its Slavic name Carzniz (1226 Karznese , 1240/41 Karzeniz ) in the Preetz Monastery in document No. I of the year .

In 1240/41 , Bishop Johann I von Lübeck with the document No. XVI. the relocation of the monastery from Erpesfelde - which was previously in Preetz - to Lutterbek on the Hagener Au (Karzeniz).

The church in Probsteierhagen was first mentioned in writing in 1259 in the handwritten directory of the churches and monasteries of the Diocese of Lübeck . The church and the parish village of Indago (1276 Kersenhagen , later Probsteierhagen ) are listed in the Registrum Capitula I. Fol. 4 . When the Lutterbek monastery was moved back to Preetz around 1250, a parochial church was built in the village of Indago. Thus, the foundation of the village and the construction of the church must coincide with the relocation of the monastery to Preetz.

Further spellings of the parish village Probsteierhagen can be found in the documents of the Preetz monastery:

1286 Kercenhagen (earth book of the Bocholt register in Preetz monastery)
1320 candle haghen (document no.XLIII)
1463 Carstenshagen (certificate no.CXXX)
1506 Kerstenshagen (Certificate No. CLXIII)
1513 Karstenshagen (certificate no.CXLVIII)
1524 Carstenhagen (Certificate No. CLVI)
1618 habener Carspel and Hagenn (Preetz Abbey tax register)
1789 Probsteyer Hagen (in the military map of Major Gustav Adolf von Warendorf)

The parish of Probsteierhagen

The first church in the provost was built around 1216 near Fernwisch. In 1259, however, this no longer existed, as the list of churches and monasteries in the Diocese of Lübeck only refers to Schönberg and Probsteierhagen. The parish of Probsteierhagen has its origin in Lutterbek, where the Preetz monastery had also settled since 1240. The year in which the Probsteierhagen church was built is not documented, but it can be assumed that it was built between 1250 and 1259, since the church is recorded as a parish church in 1259. At that time, Probsteierhagen was not a village, but only a church. In 1286 this consisted of only one farmer's position and seven cottages. The biggest farmer on the square was the pastor. Church and agriculture were therefore closely related back then. Little is known of the early Catholic as well as the beginnings of the Protestant era. A closed performance by the Probsteierhagen pastors only begins with the death of Matthias Döge in 1630.

The church, first mentioned in 1259, is dedicated to St. Catherine of Alexandria . Originally a simple stone church , the church was rebuilt in the years 1785–1788 and extended with a side aisle and tower. As an inventory, it houses a bronze baptism from 1454 and an acanthus baroque altar by Theodor Allers from 1695. The choir was decorated around 1710 by an Italian plasterer. The church already had an organ in 1623, which was replaced in 1670 by the baroque organ that is still in existence today.

Good Hagen

Little is known about the genesis of Gut Hagen . In the sources, the estate is first mentioned in 1543, when it was owned by Christoph Pogwisch . After the knight Hinrich Blome married the wealthy heiress Lucia Pogwisch in 1646, who inherited the Hagen estate in 1642, the estate passed into his possession. When Christoph Blome died in 1676 at the age of 60, his widow initially took over the management of the estate, but in 1684 transferred this task to her son Wulf Blome. After the mother's death, the estates were again divided between the brothers Wulf, Christoph and Hinrich Blome. Wulf now received Gut Hagen and Gut Dobersdorf . Wulf Blome was not only a royal Danish privy councilor in the council and like his father a knight, but was also elected provost of the Preetz monastery in 1701. His son, Wulf Blome the Younger, inherited the Hagen and Dobersdorf estates after his father's death. In his will, Wulf Blome the Younger gave the Hagen and Dobersdorf estates a Fideikommiss, making both an inalienable family estate. When Wulf died in 1761, his son Christoph Blome inherited the Hagen and Dobersdorf estates. He witnessed the abolition of serfdom in 1805 and was also the founder of the first savings bank in Schleswig-Holstein, which he opened in 1795 especially for the subjects of his two estates.

The Hagen lineage of the Blome family ends with Christoph Blome, because his only son Wulf died of consumption in 1803. After Christoph Blome's death in 1814, the Blome estates and the Hagen estate were managed as a family foundation by the administrators Carl Emil Graf zu Ranzau, Graf Brockdorff and Graf Ahlefeld. In 1930 the Fideikommiss was finally bought up by the Landgesellschaft.

The manor house was acquired by the municipality of Probsteierhagen. Great changes took place in the main courtyard at this time; While the wings of the gatehouse , the tenant house and numerous smaller buildings were converted into new farms, the large half-timbered barn from 1626 and the large cow house from the early 18th century were torn down due to lack of use.

The Hagen manor house is still an important part of the cultural and historical heritage of the community of Probsteierhagen. Construction of the mansion began after Lucia Pogwisch and Hinrich Blome married in 1647. In 1649 the construction work was completed, as the large letters used as wall anchors prove (HB for Hinrich Blome, LB for Lucia Blome 1649).

A barn and a cow house belonged to the complex. These two buildings were located to the right and left of the access road to the manor house. In front of it was the gatehouse with a tower-crowned passage, which exposed the main portal of the manor house. Like all traditional mansions, the Hagen manor was still surrounded by a moat.

Today only the two wing structures of the gatehouse have been preserved in a modified form. The passage and central tower burned down in 1921 after a lightning strike.

The Hagen manor house has been used as a cultural center for the community of Probsteierhagen since 1969. After some structural deficiencies in the manor house were identified in 2000 based on leaks in the windows, an inspection in 2003 showed such damage that renovation was necessary. The Förderverein Schloss Hagen eV was founded in 2002, whose work was intended to help finance the renovation. In July 2003, the renovation of the palace forecourt with historical paving began. The masonry renovation began in November 2006, followed by renovation throughout the building. The renovation work on the manor house was completed in early 2011.

Type of settlement

The two medieval village centers are primarily responsible for the development of today's settlement: the church and the then aristocratic Gut Hagen. Through the church, Probsteierhagen developed into a rural service community. When Gut Hagen was settled in 1928, Probsteierhagen also acquired the character of an agricultural community. Both lines of development are intertwined and shape and function of the Probsteier community to this day. Furthermore, the admission of refugees in 1945 also played a major role in the development of Probsteierhagen: The population rose sharply, just as after the settlement of Gut Hagen, and made further settlement measures necessary.

coat of arms

The coat of arms and flag were approved on October 8, 1959.

Blazon : “Divided diagonally to the left by a silver wavy bar. Above in green a bursting, red-armored, golden wolf with a silver oak branch in the left paw, below nine times divided by green and gold, covered with two silver plows diagonally one below the other. "

The municipality of Probsteierhagen is divided by the Hagener Au. Until the estate districts were dissolved in 1928, the two banks of the municipality were under different dominions. The village hall east of the Au belonged to the Preetz monastery. The provost's office began here. The place name can be translated as "clearing settlement of the provost". The division into alternating golden and green fields shows the division of the hooves and the change between pasture and arable farming. The importance of farm work is emphasized by the plow irons . The village corridor west of the Au with the former Hagen estate belonged to the Hagen and Dobersdorf estates. The Dobersdorf estate had been in the possession of the Pogwisch family since 1475 and the Hagen estate from 1543. The figure of the wolf is taken from their family coat of arms. In addition, the wolf "talking" refers to the district of Wulfsdorf and also to the earlier occurrence of these animals in the formerly extensive oak forests. The oak branch points to these, in which villages were created through clearing.

The coat of arms was designed by the Brunsbüttel heraldist Willy "Horsa" Lippert .

flag

The flag shows the municipality's coat of arms without a shield in the upright rectangular lek, and five yellow bars in green in the flying part.

Partner municipality

A partnership has existed with the municipality of Dabel in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania since 1991.

Culture and sights

music

The Hagener Schlosschor was founded in autumn 1974 by Arndt von Gavel. In 2000 Roman Reichel took over the management of the castle choir. Since its inception, the choir has presented cantatas and oratorios concerts, as well as secular music and arrangements from modern pop culture.

  • The Probsteierhagen sports club was founded in 1947.
  • The sailing club Passee e. V. was founded in 1974.
  • The "Hagener Jungs" bowling club has existed since 1965.
  • The Tennis Club Hagen e. V. was founded in 1983.
  • The Reitgemeinschaft Wulfdorf e. V. was founded in 1982. In 1999 the Thode holiday farm, the location of the riding community, was recognized as a "stable with certified horse keeping" and shortly thereafter recognized by the German Equestrian Association as an FN riding stable.
  • The Reitfreunde Röbsdorf / Probsteierhagen e. V. was founded in the 1970s and was finally officially founded as an association in 1987.

Parks

  • The park of the Probsteierhagen manor house with a green area of around 4.5 hectares offers plenty of space for park festivals, concerts and the traditional Probsteier grain days. It was probably created between 1820 and 1850 as a so-called English landscape garden with a natural conception.
  • The community forest on the outskirts of Probsteierhagen came into being with the groundbreaking in 1998. The idea: Citizens can plant their own tree on the 4200 m² area for special occasions such as weddings, birthdays or anniversaries.

The cultural monuments of the place are listed in the list of cultural monuments in Probsteierhagen .

Economy and Infrastructure

The community is predominantly agricultural, but there are also small businesses and retail stores. In addition, due to the relative proximity to the Baltic Sea, tourism is also of great importance in the region; the office of the Probstei tourist office is located in town.

education

There is a primary school in Probsteierhagen, the Probsteierhagen Village Community School.
