geography
Schwartbuck is located about 12 km northwest of Lütjenburg and about 3 km from the Baltic Sea . The districts Schwartbuck and Schmoel belong to the community. Gut Schmoel is located in the municipality.
history
Schwartbuck, which was originally called "Suarzepouc", goes back to a Slavic foundation. The place was first mentioned in 1216. Under Adolf IV , the country was colonized with Frisian and Westphalian settlers, with the Slavic settlement being taken over.
Good Schmoel
The Schmoel estate , owned by the Rantzau family from the 15th century , was first mentioned in 1433. Originally the manor house was laid out as a moated castle.
In 1686 there were witch trials on Schmoel , in which a total of 18 people were executed. As a result, the landlord Christoph von Rantzau was sentenced to a fine due to a procedural error. Two years later he abolished serfdom on the estate, which his successor revised a few years later. In contrast, the farmers carried out several lawsuits in the 18th century. Since 1740 Gut Schmoel belonged to the rule Hessenstein , with which the Swedish King Friedrich provided for his illegitimate son Friedrich Wilhelm von Hessenstein . This only lifted serfdom between 1795 and 1800.
Since the early 1990s, the beach landscape near Schmoel has been a nature reserve that is an important breeding and resting area for ducks and other birds.
