Otto Stabel (born December 21, 1898 in Ludwigshafen am Rhein ; † January 11, 1970 in Bad Bergzabern ) was the acting Lord Mayor of Ludwigshafen am Rhein.

biography

Otto Stabel joined the Ludwigshafen city administration as an apprentice writer in 1919. Since the city administration gave him free hours to study, he was able to attend lectures at the Mannheim Commercial College and study at the University of Heidelberg at the same time . In 1922 he received his doctorate in political science.

In 1922 Stabel became city assistant, in 1923 a research assistant at the statistical office, and in 1928 head of the statistical office.

In 1933 Stabel became director of the tax and accounting office and in 1934 finance director and head of the financial administration.

In May 1940, Stabel - although he was not yet a member of the NSDAP at the time - was appointed full-time alderman. During the war he had a great influence on the management of the city, as the acting lord mayors lacked experience.

In 1942, Stabel joined the NSDAP and in March 1945 became the last provisional mayor of the National Socialists and - despite his party membership - the first provisional mayor of the post-war period.

On April 20, 1945, he was replaced as Lord Mayor by Hans Hoffmann and took over his previous position as city treasurer.
