Otto Wahle
Otto Wahle (born November 5, 1879 in Vienna , † August 11, 1963 in New York ) was an Austrian swimmer . He was a member of the Austria Wien swimming club .
At the 14th German Swimming Championships in 1897 he was German champion over 100 m freestyle. At the Olympic Games in Paris in 1900 he came in second place in the 1000 meter freestyle competition and over 200 m obstacle. Four years later he was Austria's only official participant in the Olympic Games in St. Louis , where he was able to win bronze again over 440 yards of freestyle. Wahle also set a new European record for the 200 m freestyle (3: 08.4 minutes).
He later emigrated to the United States and lived in New York City until his death. He was also friends with the swimmer Karl Ruberl , who also came from Austria and also emigrated to the United States.
In 1996 he was inducted into the international swimming pool 's hall of fame .
